Welcome to the 2023 - 2024 School Year

Welcome back to another school year! This year I will be teaching 5th grade everything except math and 4th grade their ELA class! I am excited for what our year holds! Welcome back and enjoy learning! 
 
We will be using Google Classroom this year. There will be more information to come about this. This will be one way to share information, assignments, and to communicate. On this webpage, you will find pictures and other information as well about what we are learning or have completed in class.

Week of Jan. 18

Welcome back to another week of school! We are still in the green and this is a great news.
 
This week in Middle School Science we are going to talk about human consumption of resources. We are going to learn what this looks like throughout the world and how are resources will be affected because of this. We will also discuss whether resources are being used up quickly or slowly or if it depends on the type of resource. 
 
The 5th graders are continuing a new unit about Cultures in Conflict. This week we will discuss oral traditions about the Native American groups. We are going to be learning about linking verbs and helping verbs this week. We will continue our practice with cursive. We are studying plant and animal extinction. We are researching  an animal that is extinct and creating a poster all about that animal to explain how fossils help us understand animals that once lived on the earth. We are researching a Native American group and completing a poster to teach the class all about this Native American group. 
 
Thursday and Friday we will be completing the Winter NWEA for reading and Math 

Week of Jan. 11

Welcome back to another week of school! The weather was beautiful this weekend and I hope everyone enjoyed it. 

This week in Middle School Science we are beginning our new unit. We are going to be learning about Earth's resources. We will be learning what natural resources and looking at rocks and minerals. We will determine what affect human consumption of materials has on the environment and  we will discuss rock layers and what those layers tell us about the earth. 
 
The 5th graders are continuing a new unit about Cultures in Conflict. Currently, we are studying the westward expansion and how this changed the lives of the Native Americans. We are working on a writing piece that discusses how the Lewis and Clark expedition started some of these changes. We are going to be learning about linking verbs and helping verbs this week. We will continue our practice with cursive.  We are studying plant and animal extinction. This week we will begin to research an animal that has gone extinct and create a poster to teach others about this animal and why it did not survive.We will be researching a Native American group and teaching the class about that group. 

Week of Jan. 4, 2021

Welcome back to another week of school! We are still green this is exciting news. I hope everyone had a restful vacation. 

This week in Middle School we will finish the projects we started before vacation. The students will need to finish their posters and then present their ideas to the class. They have decided which area of Boomtown they want to build their school and the reasons why this is the best area to do so. 
 
The 5th graders are starting a new unit. The module we will be starting is Cultures in Conflict and we will be reading Thunder Rolling in the Mountains. We will be continuing to learn about contractions but also helping verbs. We will continue our practice with cursive.  We will begin to learn about fossils and Native American groups in the United States. 

Week of Dec. 14, 2020

Welcome back to another week! We have 8 more days of school until it is time for Holiday break. We have a lot to do during this time. 
 
In 6th, 7th, and 8th grade we will are finishing up our unit about land, water, and human interactions. The students have to decide the best place to build a school and the reasons why. They have to use all the knowledge for this book to make their choice. They will create a poster about this and convince their classmates why their choice is the best. 
 
In 5th grade, we will finishing up our unit about matter. We will complete a lab to show our knowledge from this unit. We are learning about contractions this week and will continue our work with cursive. We have finished reading The Phantom Tollbooth and will be completing our unit about wordplay this week.  Remember to bring your reading book everyday. 
 
The students have a challenge this month. They need to each week by Friday complete their Lexia minutes and complete 4 levels on Zearn. If they do, their name will go into a drawing to earn a free meal. We will also be completing our door decorating contest this month as well.

Week of Dec. 7, 2020

Welcome back to another week! 
 
In 6th, 7th, and 8th grade we will be discussing topographic maps this week and discussing erosion, depositions, and weathering. We are nearing the end of our unit and we will be deciding where to build a school in our fictional town of Boomtown and make blueprints for our proposal. 
 
In 5th grade, we will be learning about mixtures this week. We will continue to make mixtures and determine the types of changes that can take place. We are learning about verbs this week and will continue our work with cursive. We will continue our book The Phantom Tollbooth and discussing word play. Friday, final drafts of our writing pieces are due. Remember to bring your reading book everyday. 
 
The students have a challenge this month. They need to each week by Friday complete their Lexia minutes and complete 4 levels on Zearn. If they do, their name will go into a drawing to earn a free meal. We will also be completing our door decorating contest this month as well.
