Week of Sept. 7

We have had a great first week.

In all classes, we have discussed the importance of face mask and designed our own mask. There are some very creative ideas out there.

In 6th - 8th grade science, we are beginning to discuss our first unit. This unit is called Geological Processes. We will be focusing on the idea that the earth is always changing and what natural ways make this happen.

In 5th grade, we have focused on our routines this week. We have worked on some writing pieces and productive conversations. We have looked at some art and what that can tell us. Next week, we will finish up our writing prompts to show what we know and begin reading the book, Thank You, Mr. Falkner. With this book, we will discuss what reading can do for us and the knowledge we can gain from it. We will be starting to learn about text features and elections in social studies. In science, we will begin our unit on matter. The students will learn about how we know matter is there even if it is too small to be seen.

The focus for the month is happiness and mindfulness. Jon Kabat-Zinn said, "Mindfulness means being awake. It means knowing what you are doing." We will learn all about this. We will think about if our mind is full or if we are mindful.

Don't forget your mask! We all will be wearing one. We will also design a paper one and talk about mask safety and other safe protocols in the first couple of weeks of school.
