Week 2 is Jan. 24 - 28 and is focused around nutrition. Week 3 is Jan. 31 - Feb. 4 and is focused around family engagement and Week 4 is Feb. 7 to Feb. 11. Check out this section often to see pictures and learn more about the events taking place.
We learned about snowshoes, created our own snowshoes, and then tried them outside!
Opening ceremony for the Winter Kids! The 5th graders represent Germany!
We learned about bobsledding this week and tried it out in PE!
In science, we discussed the science of skating. Then, we headed outside to try the ice out after the storm to see how wax paper, sand paper, regular paper, and the different types of shoes and boots we wear felt on the ice and what worked the best to keep us from slipping and sliding.
The 5th graders learned today about added sugars in foods. They each were given "20" dollars to spend on their snack. They had to read the label, look if there is added sugar, and pay a $1 per added sugar in it. We had a great discussion about what other facts are on a nutrition label and what does this all mean. We learned about foods such as fruit and veggies that do not "cost" us anything.
We learned in health this week that it is okay to eat any type of food but how often makes a difference. We wrote down all our snacks and then sorted these snacks into groups to learn if we can eat it anytime, sometimes, or seldom. We discussed how to read labels and what that means!

We learned to walk with snowshoes and News Channel 7 was here! Make sure to check out the news to see some of our fifth graders, a picture of their snowshoes, and the fun we are having!
With the beautiful weather early in the week and bingo activities in the snow to play, we headed outside for science class. We looked at snowflakes with a magnifying glass. We made snow angels, did a snow dance, made a fort, and had lots of fun in the snow!
We have many bingo winners this week with winter kids!
Some of our pennants are done! Students need to create one to represent their family and who they are!
