RSU 24 schools participated in the “Maine Harvest Lunch Week” in September.
Maine harvested foods were served at all of our schools. Items on the menu included Maine raised beef, Aroostook County potatoes, fruits and vegetables from local farmers (including corn on the cob, apples and blueberries), Maine lobster and Maine milk. Students participated in food preparation such as shucking the corn. We look forward to participating next year and will continue to incorporate local farm foods in our menu whenever possible.
In recognition of our participation the District has received a Farm to School Champion Award from the Maine Department of Education Child Nutrition.
As stated in the RSU 24 strategic plan, we will utilize a ‘farm to school’ perspective whenever possible.
