Tier I Additional Target Supports and Improvement under Every Student Succeeds (ESSA).

We received notification from the State of Maine Department of Education in May that because one or more of our populations experienced challenges across all indicators, CHS was identified and we were placed in the Tier I status for a minimum of three years.  This information was based on the 2022-2023 data.  One of the indicators for this status included “Chronic Absenteeism”.  Based on 62 students we currently have 13 students who are chronically absent having missed 10% of the school days.  These students have missed between two and 12 days.   While we don’t want students coming to school sick, we do want students and parents to understand we can’t teach students who are not in school.  I will be reporting out on attendance weekly as well as communicating to parents via email, phone calls, and letters.  We will begin random days of attendance recognition where a class might earn extra recess, extra PE or art class, maybe a special place to eat lunch, the list is long of how we want to share our pride in our Bears having good attendance, improving their attendance, along with improving their academic performance!
